Enugu First Lady Graces Annual Bishop’s Day With Children, Celebrates Faith, Discipline, and Hope for the Future

The Annual Bishop’s Day with Children was held at the Holy Ghost Cathedral, Ogui, Enugu, drawing over five thousand joyous children from across the Enugu Catholic Diocese in an inspiring celebration of faith, unity, and spiritual growth. The Wife of the Enugu State Governor, Her Excellency, Mrs. Nkechinyere Mbah, honoured the event as the Distinguished Guest of Honour, delighting in the vibrant energy and excitement that filled the gathering.

The celebration featured an array of colourful presentations by the children, including spirited march pasts, creative dramatic performances, and various demonstrations of talent, each reflecting their deepening understanding of faith, discipline, and moral principles. These activities added a profound sense of meaning to the day, making the event both spiritually fulfilling and truly memorable for all participants.

In her address, delivered on her behalf by the Wife of the Speaker of the Enugu State House of Assembly, Mrs. Chinyere Ugwu, the First Lady reminded the children and everyone present of God’s enduring promise in Jeremiah 29:11, reassuring them that God has plans to prosper them and grant them hope for the future. She further stressed the vital role of nurturing and guiding children as the true foundation of a prosperous tomorrow. Drawing from Proverbs 22:6, she highlighted the importance of moral education, faith, and purposeful guidance in shaping the paths of young people and securing their destiny.

Her Excellency expressed deep gratitude to the Catholic Bishop of Enugu Diocese, Most Rev. Callistus C. Onaga, and the entire Catholic community for their warm reception and for organizing such a spiritually uplifting celebration. She applauded the Church’s commitment to instilling faith, discipline, and unity in the hearts of young people, noting that these virtues leave a lasting imprint on their lives and positively influence the wider society.

The First Lady prayed for God’s continuous blessings upon the leadership of the Diocese, commending their dedication to raising children who will illuminate the future with hope, strength of character, and unwavering faith. She affirmed that the light of hope ignited in the hearts of the children through such gatherings will inspire generations and sustain the values needed to build a better society
