The Enugu State Government, through the Enugu State Agency for the Control of HIV/AIDS (ENSACA), has announced a major state-wide event to commemorate World AIDS Day 2025, calling on residents, stakeholders, and development partners to participate in what promises to be one of the most significant public health gatherings of the year.
Scheduled for Monday, 1st December 2025, the event will take place at the iconic Okpara Square, Enugu, beginning at 12 noon. The state is extending an open invitation to the public, urging everyone to “save the date” and be part of a day dedicated to awareness, solidarity, and renewed commitment to ending HIV/AIDS in Enugu State and Nigeria at large.
According to the Convener and Executive Secretary of ENSACA, Dr. Rita Emeh (PT), the 2025 commemoration will spotlight the progress made in HIV prevention, treatment, and community support, while also highlighting the urgent need to close remaining gaps in access, stigma reduction, and public health education.
Dr. Emeh emphasized that the event is not just ceremonial but a strategic platform to mobilize communities, strengthen partnerships, and ignite collective action toward achieving the global target of ending AIDS as a public health threat. She noted that the state government, under the leadership of the Governor, remains fully committed to sustaining aggressive campaigns, providing quality services, and protecting vulnerable populations.
ENSACA will host a wide range of activities during the event, including health talks, awareness marches, free HIV testing and counseling, community engagement sessions, and special presentations by public health experts and civil society partners.
Residents of Enugu and neighboring states are encouraged to participate fully as the state reaffirms its leadership in the fight against HIV/AIDS.
